Willard Grant Smith PhD

1934 ~ 2014

Willard (Bill) died on December 19, 2014 at the age of 80 at his home in Sandy. Willard was born June 29, 1934 to Frank and Myrtle Smith in Sidney, New York. He retired after 23 years of honorable service from the United States Air Force in 1976. He served proudly during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.

He was very proud of his educational achievements that he began during the latter part of his military service. He obtained his Bachelor degree from the University of Maryland in 1976, his Masters of Science Degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Utah in 1978, and his Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Psychology from the University of Utah in 1981. Bill was a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP), Diplomat ‚ American Board of Disability Analyst, Diplomat ‚ American Board of Forensic Examiners, Diplomat ‚ American Board of Psychological Specialties, and a Life Fellow, American College of Forensic Examiners.

Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth Ann (Dissly), Daughters Deborah Sue Henri (Charles), Cynthia Lynn Koster, Andrea Kay Richards (Clark), son John Charles (Tamara), sister Norma Hammerberg, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Bill was pre-deceased by his brother Robert, sister Elizabeth Rowe, son James Allan, granddaughter Jennifer Henri, and grandson Charles Henri,

Bill will be missed. He was a loving husband and father. He provided a wonderful journey across the country and overseas for his family while in the military. He was very proud of all the accomplishments of his children. He was an avid reader with a large collection of books in his library. He also loved all things John Wayne and the proof is on the other side of his library where he proudly displayed his collection (which is more impressive than the gift shop at the John Wayne birthplace museum in Winterset Iowa which he visited in 2014.)

Friends and family are invited to a memorial service on January 3, 2014 at 2 pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 S.), Sandy.
