Darcie H. White

1926 ~ 2016

On February 20, 2016, due to complications of cancer treatment and age, we lost a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Darcie was a warrior in the battles with his health, motivated by providing for his bride of 67 years. He was determined and positive to the end but sadly didn't get the win. Darcie will forever be remembered for the multitudes he influenced and the top-notch example of integrity, wisdom, optimism, and compassion he embodied.

He was born September 20, 1926 in Goshen, Utah and participated in sports and drama in his early years. He was stationed in Guam as an electrician in the Navy during WWII. He graduated in Electrical Engineering from the University of Utah in 1950 and remained a lifelong, loyal Ute fan. He married the love of his life, Melva Elizabeth O'Very, September 1, 1948and together they had 3 children. He enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildren by attending as many of their events as possible and lending the ever encouraging words. He was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing and golf.

He retired in 1985 from Utah Power and Light as a vice president after a distinguished 35 years. He served on the board of many organizations and as president of the Utah Safety Council among others. At the time of his passing, he was employed part time by Utah Division of Workforce Services. Thanks to all of the doctors, nurses, etc. that provided loving care to Darcie.

He is survived by his wife, daughter Terry L. Tazoi, son Steven D. (Paula), daughter Linda (Charlie) Shelton, 6 grandchildren; JD (Nikki), Sara (Kelly), Zach (Jenn), Jordan (Kristen), Adam and Kristie, and 1 great grandchild (and 2 more on their way).

Memorial services will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens chapel (1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah) on Saturday, February 27th at 11:00 am. Friends and family may visit from 9:30 ‚ 10:30 am Saturday just prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Darcie's name to Huntsman Cancer Institute (http://www.huntsmancancer.org) or the Utah Chapter Alzheimer's Association (http://www.alz.org/utah).
