Phyllis June Jeffs

1929 ~ 2014

Phyllis June Jeffs, almost 86, passed away December 8, 2014 in Brigham City, Utah. She was born January 28, 1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Russell Francis Rodgers and Ethel June Wright. Married Richard Thomas Jeffs in 1948, later divorced.

Phyllis grew up in Salt Lake and attended South High School. She fulfilled a lifelong dream of being a nurse after she had her 5 children. She enjoyed working at the LDS hospital in the OBGYN department. The new babies born into our family were still her favorite. She then worked alongside Dr. Steele in his OBGYN office for many years. She would faithfully drive downtown to work each week day. Phyllis liked to sew, making many articles to donate to humanitarian charities. She enjoyed church service, especially working with the Young Women in her younger years, where she was always a trickster at camp. She volunteered at the Church Museum uptown as a Mission and served in the Jordan River Temple mission as a dedicated worker.

Phyllis loved her pet dogs! Unfortunately to her, they did not live as long as people do. Phyllis was also a seasoned fly fisherman. She would return to her grandparents' favorite fishing spot on the upper Weber River and Smith Morehouse every year to fish and enjoy the family one-room cabin. She loved to read and often traded books with her children. She loved to do puzzles, which was a saving activity as her Alzheimer's Disease advanced. She enjoyed playing cards (learned from her parents) with her good friends at the ‘Birthday Club.' They always wanted Phyllis on their card team.

For the last year and a half, she lived at the Pioneer Care Center in Brigham where they and the CNS hospice services cared for her many needs with great compassion.

Phyllis is survived by her younger brother Gordon Rodgers (Carol); sons Craig Richard Jeffs (Deylene) Brigham City; Gary Thomas Jeffs (Patrice) West Jordan; Scott Douglas Jeffs, Portland, Oregon; daughters Connie Ann Jorgensen (Kerry) South Jordan, Linda Carol Bates, Holladay; 18 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents Russell and Ethel Rodgers.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South. Interment to follow after services.
