Michael Dale Read

1953 ~ 2017

Michael Dale Read was born May 14,1953 in Logan, UT To Dale James and Darlene Perkes Read. He spent the first 19 years of his life in Smithfield UT He was the second child in a family that grew to five. For a long time, he was the only boy with three sisters, a recipe for disaster sometimes. Mike survived and eventually graduated from Skyview in 1971 where he was interested in both academics and sports. He played football and threw the javelin for Track and Field.

He attended Utah State for a year before leaving for a two-year mission to Brazil. Upon return he graduated from Utah State with a degree in Geology. He worked in the oil field for several years and eventually spent 25 years working for Fairchild Semi-Conductor.

Unfortunately, Mike was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy in 2005. It made his life much more difficult and was a contributing factor to his death. It gives us great joy and happiness to know now he can run and jump and hike like he used to before the disease robbed him of the ability to do the things he loved.

Mike fell at home and broke three ribs which led to a very bad case of pneumonia. The pneumonia combined with his muscle weakness led to his death in the Intensive Care Unit at IMC in Murray, Ut on May 5, 2017.

Mike remained active in his LDS faith his entire life and had a strong testimony of his Savior and Redeemer Jesus Christ. Hence he did not fear death and left this life peacefully and secure in his knowledge of what lay ahead of him.

Mike married Debra Donelson September 21,1981 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and they were blessed with four sons: Gregory, Zachary (deceased), Benjamin (stillborn) and Phillip and just recently a beautiful grandson Jackson was added to his descendants.

He is survived by his mother Darlene, wife Debbie, sons Gregory (and his beautiful and amazing wife Cassidy) and Phillip grandson Jackson also his sisters: DeAnn, Susan, Vicki and brother Robert.

Mike was a good man, an honest man a patient man a faithful man who loved his family very much. Besides his Family and Faith, his next greatest love was BYU Football. He was sure every year they would go undefeated and of course beat Utah. Rise and Shout Michael.
