Margaret Jean Godfrey

1939 ~ 2017

Margaret Jean Godfrey, age 77, died peacefully in her home on June 4, 2017. She was born on June 25, 1939 in Kemmerer, Wyoming. She was the daughter of James Stanley Wilkes and Margaret Borino, the oldest of four children. She spent her youth in several small towns of western Wyoming, graduating in 1957 from Reliance High School in Reliance, Wyoming. She met her husband, David Godfrey, after moving with her family to Salt Lake City. They were married on June 27, 1959, at All Saints Episcopal Church in Salt Lake.

They raised their family in Midvale, Utah, where they owned and operated the Sentinel Newspaper together with David's family. She typeset and laid-out advertising for the weekly paper for more than 30 years. Later, she worked for Reams Grocery Store in the video rental department and volunteered at Alta View Hospital.

Jean loved spending time with her family at their cabin in Timber Lakes. She created many family traditions that will live on through her children and grandchildren. She loved crocheting and created beautiful baby blankets for every one of her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nothing was more important to Jean than family and she spent her life bringing joy to everyone who knew her.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband David C. Godfrey; children Loree Ann (Brian) Romriell, Annette (Armond) D'Agostini, and Randy (Joelee) Godfrey; siblings Ronald (Kristine) Wilkes, Gary (Sharla) Wilkes, and Tammy (Russ) Herrmann; 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren, and 12 step- great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 9, at 2 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd., (10600 S.) Sandy, UT. Family and friends are welcome to visit from noon-1:45 p.m.
