Louisa May Wisner Salisbury

1921 ~ 2018

Louisa May Wisner Salisbury passed away March 23, 2018, at the age of 97. Her husband, Charles D. Salisbury, preceded her in death in January of this year. After 60 years of marriage, she couldn't wait any longer to be with him. They're now enjoying their next lives together, free from sickness and old age.

Louisa was born in Overton, NE to Ethel Rebecca Hughson and Fred John Wisner on February 8, 1921.

She graduated from Lexington High school in 1938, and then attended Kearney State Teachers College where she received her teaching degree. She taught elementary school in Eddyville and Cozad Nebraska. While in Eddyville, she taught in a one room school house with 12 students, one in each grade.

In 1942 she moved with her family to New Plymouth, ID where she found work at the Idaho Mutual Insurance Company in Boise. It was there that she became interested in the LDS Church and was baptized on September 4, 1948, just before she entered BYU in Provo, UT.

In September of 1952, Louisa went to work for the J.R. Simplot Company in Boise, ID. In 1954 she worked for the Hanford Atomic Products Operations (HAPO) where they produced plutonium for the "H" Bomb.

In July 1956, Louisa met Elder Charles Salisbury. Shortly after his release from his LDS mission they got married in the Idaho Falls Temple on July 5, 1957. After their honeymoon, they moved back to Provo, UT, where Charles completed his Doctorate in Religion.

The happy couple purchased their first home in Burly, ID in 1962. In 1965 they transferred to Boise State University and then in 1967 they adopted their daughter Lisa June while residing in Boise, ID. During that same year, on August 17, Louisa graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science Decree.

In 1969 Charles was transferred to teach at the Institute of Religion at Harvard University and they purchased their second home in Natick, MA. In 1970 Charles was transferred to San Diego State University and they moved into their new home in San Diego.

In 1980, the family was again transferred to Long Beach, CA where Charles worked at California State University Long Beach (CSULB), then in 1987 they were transferred once again, this time to La Jolla CA, where Charles taught Institute classes at University California San Diego (UCSD).

In February 1992 Louisa and Charles were called on a teaching mission to Maui, HI. Some of their duties were teaching Institute and Seminary to the youth workers in the pineapple fields. Upon returning home from their mission both Louisa and Charles were asked to serve in the Baptistry in the San Diego Temple. They served in this capacity for nine years.

Other areas that were dear to Louisa's heart included genealogy, service in multiple capacities for the LDS Church and spending time with their daughter and grandson Anthony Garrett. In 2002, they moved to Salt Lake City, UT to be closer to their family and were members of the Monument Park 15th Ward. They spent 12 years in this location having built many close friendships before moving in 2014 to The Cedarwood Community in Sandy in order to live closer to their daughter and grandson.

Louisa is survived by her daughter Lisa June, her grandson Anthony Garrett and her sister Eula Fitzsimons.
