Obituary Photo for J. Paul Jones Jr.

With great sadness, we say goodbye to our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, John Paul Jones, Jr., age 73, who unexpectedly passed away from cardiac arrest Tuesday, October 14, 2014. He was born July 2, 1941 in Salt Lake City to John Paul and Mary LaJune Oldroyd Jones, the eldest of five sons.

Paul attended schools in Salt Lake City and graduated from East High. He married his high school sweetheart Judith Anne Richards in the Salt Lake Temple on August 8, 1963. He was just shy of his PhD in Computer Science at the University of Utah when he entered the workforce to provide for his growing family. For over 40 years, he worked as a systems analyst and computer programmer.

Paul dedicated his life to blessing others. His family and all around him felt his love on a daily basis. He served faithfully in many church callings including bishop, missionary with his wife in the Boston Massachusetts Mission (‘08-'10) and was currently a missionary at the Riverton Family History Library and FamilySearch.

Papa was his favorite title. He loved supporting his grandchildren in their activities. Science, astronomy, reading, trains, computers, family history, and traveling with his wife were some of his passions. There was nothing that Papa couldn't fix.

Though we won't have your constant hugs and warm smiles, we will always feel your love as you watch over us. We miss you terribly. Papa, you are our hero!

Paul is survived by his wife Judy, daughter Amy (Corey) Leiseth, five sons Michael (Heather), Mark (Sarah), Chris (Melanie), Jonathan (Lissa), Brian (Kerstin), 26 Ω grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, brothers Kelly (Cathie) Jones and Tracy Jones, sisters-in-law Lynn (Jim) Backman, Anna Jones Ray and Glenda Jones, and the wonderful Richards family. Preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Brent and Tony Jones.
