Sandra Dawn Gardner Johnson "Sandie" 1943-2018, 75, passed away June 9, 2018 in Murray, Utah after battling with cancer and various medical challenges. Sandie was born May 22, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Sandie was the oldest of four children born to Donald Cluff Gardner and Erba Gloria Whatcott Gardner. Sandie married Durie Arly Johnson on April 4th, 1963. Their marriage was later solemnized in the SLC temple.
Sandie is the proud mother of three children: Jill Johnson Smith (Mike), Wendy Johnson Jones and Mark Johnson (Amy). Sandie loved and adored her thirteen grandchildren who range in age from 33 to 10: Chelsey, Michael, Alex, Ashley, Jamie, Loren, Sydney, Isaak, Samuel, Drew, Abraham, Elise and Sarah. She was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Braxten, Jayden, Zachary, Huxley and Gracie Jane.
Sandie was a powerful force for good in her life. She made it clear where she stood and she stood with Christ. Sandie did her utmost to follow the commandments and stay true to her covenants. She was a true disciple of our Lord and Savior. Sandie filled many church callings throughout her life. She loved and served many people with joy. Sandie truly loved to work in the temple. She spent countless hours in the Lord\s House serving and helping others. When she was very ill, she missed her temple service more than anything else.
Sandie enjoyed life and was a joy to be around! She was always laughing and joking and she could find humor in any situation. Sandie loved to dance and she did so often and well. This love was passed on to her daughters who proudly wore costumes made by their mother! Sandie had many friends and she loved to spend time with them. She was loyal, devoted and helpful to them in their times of need. Sandie also loved to travel! Sandie\s favorite destination was Hawaii! She travelled there several times and always wanted to go back again. Hawaii was even more fun when she was there with family.
Sandie worked in the court system as a manager and supervisor for many years. She was very respected in this position and led and inspired others to do their best. Sandie worked hard and developed many strong friendships with her colleagues. Sandie retired early from her career to stay home and care for her husband full-time after he developed Alzheimer\s disease. She was devoted to her husband until the very end.
Sandie was a very generous person. She was constantly providing her children and grandchildren with: gifts, clothing, special surprises and vacation adventures. Christmas and holidays with our "Nanny" were so much fun. She provided us with: amazing presents, fun parties and delicious meals. You couldn\t help but feel special when you were with her.
Sandie\s number one priority was her family. There is no doubt that she would have done anything to help and protect her children and grandchildren. She took every opportunity to teach them and love them. She told us she loved us and that she was proud of us. Sandie attended soccer games, baseball games, swim meets, piano recitals and dance concerts. She was an enthusiastic and vocal supporter of her grandchildren. Her influence in this world was powerful and will have no end. We look forward to our reunion with her on the morning of the first resurrection. She is now our guardian angel, but that is really nothing new.
A funeral service will be heldThursday the 14th of June at 11:00 AMat the LDS chapel located at 1880 E. 9800 S., Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be held at the church at10:00, prior to the funeral. A viewing will also be held the evening prior to the service onJune 13th from 6:30-8 PMat the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 E. 10600 S. Interment will take place at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery immediately following the service on the 14th.
