Joseph Wallis Eastwood, age 83, passed away November 16, 2013. He was born March 27, 1930 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Charles and Constance Wallis Eastwood.
Joseph grew up in Salt Lake City, graduating from West High School. He joined the United States Air Force in 1947, and retired from the Utah Air National Guard as Chief Master Sargent after 36 years. He married Margaret Horsley on September 27, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 63 years.
Joseph was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in the Bishopric and on the High Council. His great love was serving in the Scouting program for over 50 years. He served a mission with his wife to the Philippines, Cebu Mission.
Joseph loved playing baseball and softball. Every year he would play for three teams; UANG, Rose Park North 6th Ward and County Recreation League. He spent a lot of time playing up and down the California Coast for the Air Force. The Chicago Cubs and the Red Sox wanted him to play for them, but he joined the Air Force instead. He loved watching his children and grandchildren play all sports and would come to as many games as he could. He was also very artistic.
Joseph is survived by his wife Margaret, SL Utah; his children: Joanne (Steve Hatsis) Nevada, Donna (David Hall) SL Utah, Kenneth Eastwood (Diana) SL Utah, and Marche' (John Benson) Lehi Utah; 18 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. He and Margaret will be great-great grandparents in July. Joseph is also survived by his sister Connie Coates; brother-in-law George Budd; brother Charles and sister-in-law Laurie. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Mary Budd, sister June and her husband Mike Cousins and brother-in-law Clyde Coates.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 23, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at the Rose Park North Stake Center, 1155 West Boy Scout Drive (1200 North), where viewings will be held Friday evening on the North side of the building from 6:00-8:00 p.m., and Saturday morning from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow the services in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank Legacy, Avalon, and Hospice for all their care given, and Payson's Veterans Home, who treated him like Royalty the last three weeks of his life. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Boy Scouts of America.
