Richard Stuart Feinstein

1945 ~ 2017

Family meant everything to our kind-hearted husband, dad, and grandpa.

Richard Stuart Feinstein passed away on December 12, 2017, after a brief, sudden illness.

He was born on December 29, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York to Jack and Gertrude Feinstein.

Following graduation from college, Richard served a tour of duty in Vietnam with the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his meritorious service in a combat zone. After his time in the military, Richard moved to San Francisco, and began working for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). He married Carolyn Shepherd on November 26, 1974 in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple. They spent a few years in California before moving to Utah to be closer to family.

Richard and Carolyn raised their three children —Michael, Kristin, and Marisa — in West Jordan, Utah, and Richard adored his family. He took time to listen to his kids and actively supported their hobbies and interests. While in Utah, Richard continued his work for the IRS. His honesty, integrity, keen intellect, and attention to detail served him well and helped him provide for his family. He retired after nearly 40 years of service.

In his personal life, Richard was an avid reader and a gourmet cook. His love of the New York Giants was legendary, and he faithfully cheered them on through good seasons and bad ones. Richard delighted in his granddaughters. He cherished their visits and happy energy. He always looked forward to hearing about their adventures. We will miss Richard's thoughtful advice, wry observations, and tender sympathy. Above all, we'll miss the quiet, patient man who loved us — with all his heart — because we were his family.

Richard is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his son, Michael; his daughters, Kristin (Jason) Pratt and Marisa (Todd) Feinstein Bluth; and six beloved granddaughters.

We invite friends and family to visit and share their memories of Richard at Larkin Mortuary (3688 W. 12600 S. in Riverton) on Monday, Dec. 18, 2017 from 12‚2 p.m. A brief graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 S. Highland Drive in Salt Lake City. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Utah Food Bank.
