Harvey Edward McCann

1927 ~ 2014

Passed away on Oct. 7, 2014 in South Jordan at the age of 86.

Harvey Edward McCann was born on Nov. 21, 1927 to John Edward and Clara May Harvey McCann in Columbia, Utah. In the early 1930's, the family moved to Western Colorado, where Harvey was raised in the Crystal River Valley near Carbondale. In 1945 he graduated from Carbondale Union High School whereupon he immediately joined the U.S. Army toward the end of World War II. He was soon assigned to the Army Air Corps and its successor, the U.S. Air Force, with a B-29 Bomb Group, wherein he served proudly until the Spring of 1949.

After his military service, he entered the Colorado School of Mines, receiving the degree of Engineer of Mines in 1953. Following several years in the private sector of the minerals industry, he was employed by the U.S. Geological Survey, involved in administering mineral leasing on federally-owned lands, from which he retired after some 20-years of service.

He married Margaret Rohwer on May 8, 1948 in Carbondale, later divorced. They had two children. Harvey married Fern Kroll on January 16, 1966 in Elko, Nevada. She had three children from a previous marriage. He was a member of the Methodist Church, Masonic Order and American Legion, all of Carbondale; and Elks Lodge of Aspen, Colorado.

Harvey is survived by his wife, Fern, South Jordan; son, Kelly (Carol), Henderson, Nevada; daughter, Kathy, Carbondale, Colorado; three step-children, Denis (Sheila) Kroll, West Jordan, Judy (Larry) Giles, West Jordan, Gary (Debbie) Kroll, South Jordan; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary Chapel, 1950 E. 10600 S., Sandy, where a viewing will be held prior from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment Larkin Sunset Gardens.
