Betty Evans

1924 ~ 2015

Betty Folland Evans left her earthly home on January 19, 2015, surrounded by her family she loved so dearly. Betty was born in Salt Lake City on April 3, 1924 to Naomi T. Williams Folland and Lorin G. Folland, Sr., having moved a year earlier from Malad, Idaho.

After graduating from South High school, she attended the University of Utah and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. It was there that Betty met Paul Henry Evans at a dance and they dated until he left for his duties as Corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II. After he returned home, they married in 1945 in the Salt Lake Temple. Because of Paul's work with KSL and Bonneville Intl., they were able to travel the country together. Betty and Paul were ‘goodly parents' to their eight children.

A gifted seamstress and business woman, Betty created Skyline Design where she made draperies, clothing and bridal gowns. In her later years, she returned to college earning a second degree from BYU in Interior Design. She had a sharp mind with an amazing memory. She stayed connected to her cousins, aunts, uncles, and knew their names and could tell historical stories about hundreds of her ancestors.

Betty endured to the end as a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. Her favorite service was Relief Society homemaking director and primary teacher—she had a great love for children and was an amazing story teller. Because of the family's 30 direct pioneer ancestors, she became a longtime member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, serving as treasurer and then captain of the Mt. Olympus camp. She was also a member of The Malad Club.

Betty liked entertaining, fine china, collecting dolls, parties and family reunions in the summer and at Christmastime. She loved, lived, and happily gave of her time, talents, and energy to serve her family and others. She is survived by her children, Dianna (John) Nelson, Steven (Linda), Kathi Campbell (Alan) McEwan, Chris (Roger) Perry, Julia (Rob) Briggs, Mike (Libbie), Tom (Susan), Lorah (Stan) Maeser. Grandma could recognize and name all her 37 grandchildren and 78 great- grandchildren. Proceeded in death by husband Paul H. Evans, twin daughters Linda and Leah, parents, and brother Lorin G. Folland, Jr. The family thanks the Heathsouth staff for their tender care.
