T. Eugene King

1934 ~ 2017

Thomas Eugene King passed away November 4, 2017 of congestive heart failure at the Jordan Valley Hospital in West Jordan, Utah. Born on January 20, 1934 in Cedar City, Utah, he was the youngest of six children born to Thomas Arthur and Myra Spencer King.

He grew up in the beautiful red rock country of Cedar City and Escalante, Utah. When he was eight years old, the family moved to Provo, Utah. During his Provo years, he made many lifelong friends. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1958 with a degree in Finance and Banking, and later graduated from Pacific Coast Banking School in 1974.

In 1956, after serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hawaii, he married Lenadra McKell in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of Lynne King, Paul McKell King (Pam), Thomas McKell King (Jill), and Julianne Hallstrom (Brett). They have enjoyed choice experiences with their eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Gene is fondly known as Grandpa Great by some of the sweet great grandchildren.

Before retiring in 1996, Gene spent his professional career in the banking industry with First Security Bank for thirty nine years. Beginning in the Auditing Division, he had later responsibilities as Vice President and Cashier, President and Chief Executive Officer of First Security Service Company, and Executive Vice President of First Security Bank. He was known by his associates as not only a colleague, but a valued mentor. The associations he made during his professional career continued well after his retirement.

Gene was a faithful member of the LDS church his entire life, exhibiting true Christ-like love and service to all around him. Through the years he served diligently in numerous callings in the church, including as Bishop of the Garden Heights Ward in Salt Lake City. He and his wife served as an Office Couple in the New York Rochester Mission from 2002-2003.

In honoring his lifetime commitment to loving and serving those around him, in lieu of flowers, Gene's family suggests that a donation be made to the LDS Church's Humanitarian or Missionary fund.

In addition to his wife and family, he is survived by his brother, Joseph Spencer King (Kay).

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 10th, 2017, at the River Ridge First Ward, 10124 South 1300 West, South Jordan, Utah. Friends may call that morning prior to the service beginning at 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy, Utah.
