Diane Tripp Hurst

1930 ~ 2017

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Diane Hurst, 87, passed away on November 22, 2017. She was born February 27, 1930 in Murray, Utah to Archie Lewis Tripp and Nellie Opal Gene Booth Tripp.

Diane was raised in Salt Lake City and graduated from East High School. She attended the University of Utah where she met Donald Hurst, her husband and partner of 67 years. After they were married, they moved to San Francisco where they started their family, then to Denver and Casper, WYO before their family of six returned to Salt Lake City.

Diane was a sweet, strong and determined woman, who after her children were in school, resumed her education earning a Bachelor's in Education from Westminster College and then later a Master's in Education from the University of Utah. For 20 years, Diane enjoyed teaching 4th and 5th grades at Hillside Elementary School in Granite School District. She was a 50-year member of P.E.O., a philanthropic organization that supports the education of women, (Chapters AB and N in Salt Lake City). Diane was a beautiful pianist, often entertaining family and friends and was the accompanist in many school and church programs. She was an avid reader and organized a book club so she could share the experience and enjoy lively discussions. She loved to golf and ski in her younger years and took great pride in her garden in Pepperwood. Don and Diane enjoyed traveling, especially their road-trips to Palm Springs, where they spent many winters, and to their Bear Lake cabin, where they created wonderful family memories. Don and Diane enjoyed golf and memorable dinners at Willow Creek Country Club, where Diane especially loved long lunches with her girlfriends.

Diane is survived by her brother, Booth A. Tripp and her children: Pamela Dennison (Mike), David Hurst (Cathy), William Hurst (Deborah) and Polly Reynolds (Charles), 13 grandchildren: Kellie Bartz (John), Jonathan Hurst (Rhonda), Jennifer Bauer (Jim), Jessica Yurgaitis (Derek), Matthew Thompson, Donald P.
