Our loving mother, Karen Nelson Reed, passed away at her home in West Jordan, Utah on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 due to complications of metastatic breast cancer. She was born on April 1, 1949, and raised in Spanish Fork, Utah by her parents, Robert A. and Edme Nelson. She married David Edward Reed, Sr. in the Provo, Utah temple on June 15, 1973; together, they had 6 children.
With a strong testimony of the Gospel, Karen loved her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was fiercely loyal to her family and couldn't think of anything better than spending time with her children and grandchildren. It was not uncommon to find her knitting or sewing an item for her grandchildren or reading one of her favorite books.
She is survived by her children: David (Dianne) Reed, Stephanie (Ben) Southworth, Dr. Kathleen [Katie] (Matthew) McDonald, Sally (John) Stevenson, Nancy (Justin) Whitear, Tiffany (Jake) Southworth; 17 grandchildren, and her brother, Robert W. (Kathleen) Nelson. Karen was preceded in death by her husband, David Edward Reed, Sr.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 1 pm in the Mountain Shadows Ward, 7925 South 2700 West, West Jordan, Utah 84088 with a viewing from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. A viewing will also be held on Friday, July 17, from 6-8 pm at Larkin Mortuary ‚ Riverton, 3688 West 12600 South, Riverton, Utah.
