Kevin Modis Winston

1959 ~ 2020

Kevin Modis Winston passed away peacefully with his wife by his side. He was born to Gwendolyn and Ray Winston in Los Angeles California.

Kevin was a very loving husband and father to his children Kevin (Danielle) Jackson, Kiyanna (DJ) Sams, Kameelah Winston, Khalil (Tacara) Saleem, Dominique Green, Bryson Hawkins, Kaleb (Sade) Winston, Kevawna Winston and Kaden Winston. He had 19 grandchildren, 1 grandchild on the way and 1 great grandchild. Kevin Winston and Margret Nash were married in 1977 and later divorced in 1983, but remained buddies until his passing. He and Lisa just recently celebrated 25 years together.

Kevin impacted many lives in his community activism roles throughout the years and had a tremendous amount of love for the people he worked with throughout the years. He was employed by Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation as well as Vivant Arena at the time of his passing.

His business, The Original Incense Man was a passion of his and Lisa's since 1998 when Lisa and his son Khalil started it in Ogden Utah. Kevin loved his customers like family. The West side community has been part of the Winston household for the last 15 years. Kevin will be sorely missed for his contagious smile and positive outlook throughout this community. Over the years Kevin worked with the parents and children of both the Sorenson and Northwest Recreation Centers as well as multiple community agencies to improve the West Side Community.

Kevin attended Overland Avenue Elementary School. Later went to Horace Mann Jr High and Chrenshaw High. Kevin was an extra in several movies and sitcoms. To name a few, Julia, The Partridge Family, The Flying Nun, The Singing Nun, Dr. Doolittle. He played in the Band and mastered the drums, symbols and clarinet. He coached his sons football and baseball teams and was a business entrepreneur.

Kevin is also survived by his siblings Shakir (Phyllis) Saundra Winston Perkins and (Gregory)/ Ameenah and Kashif Ali, Norvert (Valerie) Winston and Khalid (Kahanda) Saleem. Kevin had a large host of nieces and nephews he adored dearly as well as his cousins, and he was very close to all of them.

Proceeded in death by his sister Lewana Guidry as well as his parents.
