Dr. Abraham Owen Smoot V,82, ofWest Bountiful, Utah, passed away onJanuary 22, 2016.

Owen was born inProvoonNovember 3rd 1933 to Abraham Owen Smoot IV and Reva Stevens.Hegraduated fromSouth Highreceived his M.D. from the U of U. Owen served as a missionary to the Northern States Mission.

Owenwas married toJoan SmithonMay 31st 1956 in the Salt Lake Temple.

Owenworked as an orthopedic surgeonand was fundamental in multiple outreach programs that benefitted many people. Hewas actively involved inthe LDS church and served in many leadership callings. He served as a temple worker for 16 years and on the missionary medical committee for many years. Owen loved being with his family and reaching out and mentoring others.

Owenis survived byChildren, Owen Smoot VI (Elizabeth), Kata Strong, Susan Evans (Scott), 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, brother Robert Smoot (Gaylia), and many nieces and nephews.

Owenis preceded in death byhis wife, daughter Lisa Ann Smoot, parents, sister, Coleen Baxter.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given tothe LDS Church Missionary fund. The family ofAbraham Owen Smoot Vwishes to thankthe doctors, nurses and hospice workers for their help and compassion.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at 11:00 am, atthe West Bountiful 8th Ward, 311 North 800 West, West Bountiful. Viewings will be held atTuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pmatLarkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, and 9:30 am-10:30 am at West Bountiful 8th Ward at 311 North 800 West prior to the services. Burial will follow the funeral atLarkin Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled byLarkin Mortuary.
