Polly Ann Coleman

1947 ~ 2018

Polly Ann Coleman, 71, died September 28, 2018 at her home in Salt Lake City two-and-a-half years after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She was born on May 10, 1947 in Salt Lake City to Paul Woodrow and Dorothy Chivrell Schafer. Polly graduated from Highland High School in 1965 and attended the University of Utah majoring in physical education. She married Gary Badger in 1968; divorced 1986. In 1988 she was employed at Olympus View Hospital as the administrative assistant to both the CEO and the Medical Director. Polly loved health and physical fitness and taught aerobics and water aerobics where she made life-long friends.

Polly married her soul mate, Dennis Coleman on February 23, 1989. Survived by her husband, sons Kelly Scott Badger (Amy) and Corey Shawn Badger (Krysta); stepsons William Jeb Coleman (Michaela), Matthew David Coleman (Samantha) and Robert Curtis Coleman (Nichol); grandson Brandon Badger; granddaughters Allie and Emma Badger and Edie and Everly Coleman; and sister Pam Murray. Also survived by many dear friends (you know who you are).

Hiking, gardening, knitting, birding, family gatherings and discovering a Golden Eagle's nest in the west desert are just a few of the joys that enriched her life. One of her greatest joys was walking with her dog at Farmington Bay. However, she did hate the no-see-ums but kept her sense of humor about them (see photo). Despite the difficulties of her illness she also maintained her sense of humor about the twists and turns of life but understood the importance of quality of life and Being Mortal.

Preceded in death by her favorite dog, Jet Black, she is now running in the clouds with Jetty Boy.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ignacio Garrido and the outstanding caregivers at the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

Cremation services at Larkin Mortuary will be for immediate family. A Celebration of Life open house will be held in the spring for invited friends and extended family. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation (www.huntsmancancer.org/giving/foundation/) or Best Friends Animal Society (www.bestfriends.org)
