Elizabeth \"Beth\" Verlie McFarlane Jensen

1921 ~ 2016

Salt Lake City, Utah ‚ Elizabeth (Beth) Verlie McFarlane Jensen passed away peacefully one week short of her 95th birthday and into the arms of her Heavenly Father on Thursday, August 25th in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on September 1, 1921 to Lawrence Clyde and Ida Verlie Jackson McFarlane in Salt Lake City, Utah where she attended East High School, graduating as their valedictorian. It was during the Second World War that she met and married the love of her life, Shirrel Hyrum (Shag) Jensen. They were married May 15, 1943 in Oakland, California with their marriage shortly after solemnized for eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Tragically, Shag died in 1965, leaving Beth a young widow who would remain devoted to him throughout those long 51 years. Theirs was truly a romance for time and eternity. After Shag's death, Beth returned to school where she obtained secretarial skills that would eventually lead to her position as City Recorder for the City of South Salt Lake, until her retirement.

To her family, Beth was "Nana" and there was no one more devoted to each of them. She was loyal to each one and shared in the joy of marriages and the birth of her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She hosted numerous Christmas parties, participated in golf outings, was the matriarch at the annual family vacations to Mack's Inn Idaho, and joined in countless trips to Disneyland. The family holds powerful memories of her life filled with love.

As she became more fragile later in her life, Beth was taken into the home of her daughter Sandra and her husband Chuck and then to the home of her son Larry and his wife Sally, who dutifully provided for her every need with great compassion and care for her remaining five years. As care became constant by Larry and Sally, this was a selfless gift that was appreciated by the entire family who fully understood their sacrifice of love.

Beth is survived by her children, Sandra Lee and Charles South Fox, Lawrence (Larry) Hyrum and Sally Hertig Jensen, Richard Byron and Marla Jolley Jensen, 20 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Her posterity was everything to her.

Beth was preceded in death by her husband, Shag, her siblings Byron L. McFarlane, LaVerl Jean Collison, Helen Elaine Pyne and granddaughter, Lisa Lee Fox Guillaume.

A graveside service and burial was held on Saturday, August 27th at 10:00 am at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road, Sandy, Utah. The family would like to thank Lance Larkin, a dear family friend, for his special attention to Beth's services.
