Rex L. Jones

1947 ~ 2018

Our beloved husband, father, and Papa, Rex Lynn Jones, passed away at age 71 on July 24th, 2018. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 11th, 1947 to William C. and Vera Mower Jones, Rex was the youngest of 6 siblings. He was a proud member of the United States Army, where he served as an artillery commander in the Vietnam War. He retired a Lieutenant Colonel. After his time in the military, he came home to Salt Lake City, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing from the University of Utah. Rex spent his working career in advertising, working in both radio and newspaper. He was also a professional opera singer, spending six years singing with the chorus for the Utah Opera Company. He enjoyed reading, fishing, and spending time with his granddaughters. He was an avid Colorado Rockies and Dallas Cowboys fan, and would watch any sport (even golf!) on TV.

Rex is survived by his wife of 38 years, Gaylene F. Jones; daughters: Jennifer Lynn Botelho (Gary), Megan Ann Probe (Chip), Devon Marie Smith (Justin), Meredith Leigh Reuss, and Gillian Kate McDaniel (Brandon); his granddaughters: Aspen Sky, Carleigh Marie, Dylan Viola, Piper Marie, and Erin Eleanor; and his brothers: Ronald C. and Gordon W. Jones. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Errol; and his sisters, Muriel and Camille.

Services will be held Monday, July 30that the West Jordan 19thWard,2666 West 7000 South, West Jordan, Utah, 84084. Viewing will be heldfrom9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.with funeral services to follow.Rex will be interred at the Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park in Bluffdale, Utah.
