Robert Benton Beall

1927 ~ 2015

Robert (Bob) Benton Beall, surrounded by his family, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 in his Salt Lake City home on August 25, 2015.

On July 2nd Bob suffered a hemorrhagic stroke. We thought we had lost him, but in true Bob fashion he fought hard and gave us 7 more weeks to love and spoil him.

Bob was born June 27, 1927 to Vernon Eugene Beall and Blanche Louise Baker Twomey in Billings, Montana.

He is survived by his wife, Wendy Walker Beall; his seven children: Kristi (Mike), Brad (Debra), Kirk (Jenn), Shannon (Steve), Rachel (John), Robb, and Tori (Hayward); his 22 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and his sister Barb Thorpe. Linda, his sister, preceded him in death.

Bob was an entrepreneur, soldier, public school teacher, and family man. Bob owned and ran the Cody radio station KODI, as well as A-Bell communications. He served his country in WWII and the Korean War. He enjoyed a long career as an educator and as the Executive Director of Granite Education Association. To build memories for his children, Bob purchased a family boat that he did not know how to operate, and insisted on annual family boating treks to Lake Powell, attending his last family trip the last week of his life. (A quick study, he did learn to drive the boat.)

Bob taught his children the importance of love, loyalty, and equality. He was passionate about his family and his beliefs, both religious and political, donating time and money to organizations such as Literacy Action and the LDS Church.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service celebrating his life on Monday, August 31 at noon in the Yalecrest Ward House: 1035 South 1800 East. A viewing will be held Sunday in the same location, August 30th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, and again Monday the 29th at 10:30 AM preceding the funeral services. Bob will be interred at Larkin Sunset Lawn.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Utah Literacy Action Center.
