Janet Diane Aktinson Whiting

1955 ~ 2020

Janet passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Tuesday, January 21, 2020 after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family. She was born May 21, 1955 in Murray, UT to Reed D. and Billie Ann Atkinson. She graduated with her class in 1973 from Hillcrest High School. She married Charlton ‘Ging' Whiting on September 4, 1974. They had 3 children, Justin James, Honesty Ann and Elizabeth Marie, they divorced in1997. She married Pete Mendez and divorced 6 years later. She had many talents and gifts which she shared her entire life.

She enjoyed sewing, crochet, clowning and ballooning. She was in the 24th of July Parade in 1995 as QT-Pie the clown. She made and sewed her clown outfit. She was an NLP (Neural Linguistic Programming) Practitioner. She practiced hypnosis and had her own business ‘Alpha Waves Hypnosis" while living in Kennewick, WA. She loved helping. She really loved being a wife, mother and grandmother. She truly loved her family, enjoyed going out to eat and visiting and talking with everyone. She loved people and enjoyed making them feel important even if she didn't know them. Halloween was a favorite holiday for her and in 2012 her and her family built a yard haunt in the backyard of her home in Washington which created many memories filled with laughter for numerous children. Janet genuinely cherished being a part of that epic evening.

Survived by her children Justin (Rachel, deceased 2015), Honesty, Elizabeth; grandchildren Makay, Cameron, Trinity; siblings Kathleen (Stephen) Matson, David (Bobby) Atkinson-Smith; and 6 nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents and one sibling Richard Atkinson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 25th at 2:00 PM with a viewing from 1:00 to 1:45 PM at Larkin Mortuary Riverton, 3688 West 12600 South, Riverton. Interment to follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 S.), Sandy.
