Dorothy Perkins Taylor

1928 ~ 2013

Dorothy Perkins Taylor passed away on December 7, 2013 in Sandy, Utah at the age of 85.

She was born to Jessie Pierce and Wendell Perkins on April 11, 1928 in Smithfield, Utah. She grew up in Smithfield, and attended Utah State in Logan where she met her future husband, Tom Taylor of Moab. After earning her bachelor\s degree in elementary education she taught school for one year in Hansen, Idaho before she and Tom were married on June 6, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple.

Tom\s work in entomology took them to San Antonio, Texas, Yuma, Arizona, then Yreka, California. Dorothy taught fourth grade and reading in Yreka. They moved to Sacramento in 1974 where she continued teaching as a reading specialist until her retirement. Tom always said Dorothy\s middle name was \"go\". She loved adventures, especially snow and water skiing, and traveling. She participated in a bicycle club and a tennis club until her second round of cancer at the age of 75 forced her to slow down. She was an accomplished seamstress, making all the clothes for herself and her four daughters. Dorothy was a member of the LDS Church and served in many callings, including Primary and Young Women\s president, and as an ordinance worker in the Oakland Temple.

She is survived by her children, Carolyn Kruger (Rob) of Vernal, Utah; Diane Coles (David) of Sandy, Utah; Michelle Campbell (Steven) of El Dorado Hills, California; and Lynda Miller (Robert) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; 15 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; brothers Richard Perkins (Billie) and Michael Perkins (Debbie). Preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Jean Sessions, husband Tom, and grandson Bradley Coles.

Services will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah. Visitation one hour prior to service. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens.
