Ruth Horne Lundgren, age 97, passed away at her home in Salt Lake City on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 with members of her family around her. Ruth was born in Salt Lake City December 14, 1920 to Joseph Feramorz and Ida Verene Nelson Horne. She married her childhood sweetheart, Allen Henry Lundgren June 10, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Ruth had a lifelong love of teaching children. Her career included teaching in Salt Lake City public elementary schools, Stewart School and at the University of Utah where she earned a Master's degree and a Ph.D and was appointed Assistant Professor of Education and then Associate Clinical Professor. She served as president and teacher in all the auxiliaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a member of the Primary General Board from 1970 to 1980 and was instrumental in writing Primary manuals and establishing curriculum. Ruth and Allen served as public affairs missionariesfor the Church in Hawaii.
Ruth loved her family, her home on Princeton Ave and her beautiful garden. She is the last original home owner on Princeton. She loved any time spent in Lambs Canyon and was quick to point out that it is more than a location, Lambs Canyon is a concept. Ruth enjoyed her callings and service to the Church throughout her life. She grew up with and remained close to Allen's sisters her entire life.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Virginia Lee Bywater (Douglas), her son Mark Horne Lundgren (Nancy) and her brother Grant Nelson Horne (Mario). She has 8 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren that she loved very much. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Allen, her son Howard (Andrea Alcabes) and her brothers Joseph, David, and Jack Horne. The family gives sincere appreciation to the staff at Aspen Ridge Hospice and Mary Kortkamp for the excellent care they gave our mother at the end of her life.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 12:00 noon at the Yalecrest Ward LDS chapel at 1035 South 1800 East SLC, with a viewing from 10:30-11:40 AM.Interment at Salt Lake City Cemetery.
