Janet Elaine Peterson Barratt

1926 ~ 2014

Janet Elaine Peterson Barratt passed away on June 17, 2013. She was born on April 4, 1926 in Idaho Falls, ID to Lena Thilman and Water D. Peterson. Janet grew up on a sprawling, rustic ranch at the base of the Tendoy mountains in her beloved Western Montana. She married Jack Hamilton Barratt of Salt Lake City,on June 22, 1946 in Lima, MT, they settled in Bountiful, Utah. After a long career working for various branches of our Defense Department, Janet retired from Defense Mapping Agency in 1985. She was a member of PEO, a Beta Sigma Phi, a member of Tyros Investment Group, several book clubs, the Ajo Music Club and, of course, the Red Hat Society. Janet was an Episcopalian and attended The Church of the Resurrection in Centerville. Janet and Jack loved to travel in their trailer, they took many long, leisurely trips, and were usually accompanied by their two cats. Janet loved the Sonora Desert, the foothills of Centerville and, with all her heart, her home, Montana.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack. She is survived by her brother Jack E. Peterson and her loving daughter, Susan. Janet was brave, strong-willed and she truly found the world beautiful. Just a few days before she passed, Janet recited to her daughter one of her favorite poems:

"If of thy mortal goods thou art bereft, and from thy slender store two loaves alone to thee are left; sell one, and from the dole, by hyacinths to feed thy soul."

The family would like to thank the staff at Welcome Home Assisted Living in Bountiful and Summit Hospice for their caring support.

Services will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at The Church of the Resurrection, 1131 South Main Street, Centerville.

Graveside service to follow at 12:30pm at Elysian Gardens Burial Gardens, 1075 E 4580 S, Salt Lake City. Online condolences at larkinmortuary.com
