Robert Mathews Jack

1929 ~ 2015

Robert (Bob) Mathews Jack, a gentle giant of a man, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2015 in Midvale, Utah, at the age of 85. Bob was born July 13, 1929, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Fredrick Alvin Jack, and Ellen Elsie Mathews. He married his sweetheart, Doris Strong, on September 7, 1950. Bob proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War, as a military police officer and investigator stationed in Germany. Upon returning to the states, he began his career as a Deputy Sheriffwith the Salt Lake County Sheriff's office. He passionately served the community as a Deputy Sherifffor over 38 years, holding many leadership positions including Commander of the Jail Division, Detective Division and Patrol Division. He developed and commanded the Sheriff's Office Tact Squad. He rode with the motor squad and was Rescue 1 for Canyon Patrol and Rescue. He was a graduate of the FBI Academy and was an expert marksman. He gained the respect and admiration of all those he came in contact with. He retired as a Captain in 1992.

He loved golfing with his long-time friends, his father's day foursomes with his sons, fishing with his children and grandchildren, camping, hunting, and most of all sitting on the front porch surrounded by his beloved family. Bob is survived by his wife of 64 years, (Doris Jack); his son Robert M. (Antionette) Jack, Jr.; Jody (Bryan) Morris; Lisa (Danny) Thackeray; 6 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ellen Sarah (Glen B) McIntyre; Frances Marian (Wallace Reid) Dibble; and brother (Frederick Alvin (Maxine) Jack, Jr.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Marks Hospital and Cascade at Riverwalk Rehabilitation Center for their attentive care and exceptional kindness.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Chapel, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 S.) Sandy, Utah. A visitation will be held at the same location on Monday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
