Kim Eckles

1955 ~ 2016

Kim Eckles my best friend, loving husband, great father and awesome grandfather passed away July 3, 2016 at the age of 60 after a long battle with cancer. He had many redeeming qualities: patience, compassion, love and strength. In short, he was just a great guy who was loved by all.

He was born in Provo, UT on November 18, 1955 to Jerry Eckles and JoElla DeWolf. His younger years were spent in Orem, UT where he graduated from Orem High in 1974. He had a wonderful upbringing with many close friends from swimming, baseball, and other sports. He spoke often of his youth, whether playing sports, family camping trips, painting with his dad or getting into trouble with his siblings Terry and Desiree.

He married Lori Nichols the love of his life in August of 1978. They shared a life of mutual admiration, love, friendship and fun. They had endless adventures across the world, had a passion for baseball and along the way raised two incredible children. He loved and was loved by so many that our family extended beyond tradition. To all of you who made his life special, it will not be forgotten.

He worked for Utah Power for close to 40 years as a lineman. Forever he was a proud member of IBEW Local 57 and the men who worked alongside him were like brothers. To his coworkers and crew, we thank you for your kindness and support the last few months. It meant the world to him.

He is survived by his wife, daughter Cammie (Ed) Cable Draper, UT; son Chad Eckles NYC; grandchildren Ari and Dom Cable Draper, UT; mother JoElla Christensen American Fork, UT; sister Desiree (Bob) Middleton South Jordan, UT and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Jerry and brother Terry.

For all the care and kindness, he received from the Huntsman Cancer Institute; for all his nurses and his doctors in particular Dr. Ignacio Garrido-Laguna, Dr. Robert Glasgow, Dr. Douglas Vogeler and Dr. Jonathan Whisenant without them this final time we had with him, would not have been possible.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South). A viewing will be held Friday, July 8, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

In lieu of flowers the family welcomes a donation to the Huntsman Cancer Institute in his honor. We must stop this disease.
