Douglas Hedric Weaver

1963 ~ 2014

Doug Weaver passed away on Friday, May 23, 2014. He was born in New York City on May 24, 1963 to Dr. Dean H. Weaver and Barbara Castleton. Doug was raised in Salt Lake City. He graduated from Highland High School in 1980. Doug served an LDS mission in Los Angeles, California. He received his BS from the University of Utah where he was affiliated with Beta Theta Pi. In 1989 he married Wendy Carrigan in the Salt Lake Temple (later divorced). Doug attended the University of Utah School of Law where he received his JD in 1992. Doug and his family moved to Reno, Nevada where he worked as a prosecutor in the District Attorney\s office until 1997 when he returned to Salt Lake City and continued to practice law in juvenile criminal defense. Doug was especially gifted in working with youth.

Doug loved his children. He spoke of Douglas, Justin and Michelle tenderly. He often expressed how proud he was of his \"good kids\" and their accomplishments. To his nieces and nephews he was the epitome of the fun uncle. On family trips to Bear Lake, he was always organizing activities, planning every day with hikes, ping pong tournaments and target shooting. One was never bored when Doug was around. He was an original, a unique individual. His personality was infectious and everyone loved to be with him. Doug had his own brand of humor. A close friend described it as \"ingeniously witty and fall down laughing, irreverently funny.\" Doug also expressed his humor through his innate ability to draw, especially caricature and political commentary. He made each person feel important, engaging them with personal questions that would spark interesting conversation. Doug loved our beautiful Utah mountains and was an avid hiker and adventurer. He had no fear and often went alone on these adventures leaving us asking the question, \"Has anyone heard from Doug?\" Doug loved history and traveling to historical sites in America and abroad, especially battlefields. He was an avid reader, often reading several books simultaneously. Doug was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and had a strong testimony of the gospel. \"We love you and will miss you every day.\"

Doug is survived by his children, Douglas, Justin and Michelle; his mother Barbara Castleton; seven brothers and sisters, Dean C. Weaver, Patrick Q. Weaver, Sarah W. Fitzpatrick (Doug), Edward H. Weaver (Janaan), Michael Reed (Marianne), Kristen Wight (Chris), Rebecca Croft (David); mother, Suzanne Weaver and 19 adored nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his aunt and uncle, Eva W. and H. Jay Layton. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Dean H. Weaver.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 12:00 noon at the Olympus Hills Ward, 4176 Adonis Drive, SLC. Friends may visit with family on Wednesday, May 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple and from 10:30 to 11:30a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
