Delilah Hart Christen

1923 ~ 2017

Delilah Zane Andersen Hart Christen, our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and beloved friend, passed away peacefully Saturday November 25, 2017 in Salt Lake City, Utah, She was 94. Delilah was born in Salt Lake City on August 20, 1923, to Lewis Coby Andersen and Clarissa Brunson Andersen. She graduated from West High School and married her high school sweetheart, Howard Arthur Hart, September 4, 1944. Later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They had three children, Corey, Randy, and Terri. Tragically, Terri and Howard died in an auto crash in 1959. After raising her two boys and being widowed for 18 years, she met and married Russell Christen in 1974. Russell was a wonderful man and took very good care of Delilah. They were together 39 years until he passed away. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was a descendent of the early pioneers that came to the Salt Lake Valley.

Delilah was a fun, loving, sociable person. She lived her whole life in the shadow of the Wasatch mountains, but was also well traveled to places in Europe, Hawaii, and China in her late 80's. She grew up poor in a home in Salt Lake that had no plumbing or electricity.

She lived an active life, reluctantly giving up her car keys at age 92. She continued to swim and exercise frequently. Her big social event was going to have her hair done every week, continuing until her passing. She loved fashionable clothes and everything she wore seemed to go perfectly with her sparkling blue eyes. Her lifetime joy was cooking for her family and friends. She became an accomplished artist.

Over the years she enjoyed many crafts including knitting, sewing, quilting, painting and anything that involved flowers. She had her prized goldfish in her outdoor courtyard which brought her much joy. She loved all of her children and grandchildren and was always delighted to go to their events and experienced much joy in their accomplishments. We love and will miss her immensely, and no party or social event will be the same without her.

Delilah is survived by her son Corey Hart (Marina), son Randy Hart (Michele), stepson Kent Christen (Karen), stepdaughter Laura Mulliner, stepson Dan Christen (Kris), 20 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by daughter Terri Hart, stepson Russell Christen (Jr), and husband Russell C. Christen. She will be surely missed by all who knew her. A special thanks to Brighton Hospice for their competent and caring service, also to her dear neighbors Walter and Loretta Arabasz and the many members of her ward family.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the Millcreek 2nd Ward, 4220 S. 420 E. Salt Lake City, Utah at 11:00 am with a viewing from 9:00-10:45 am. Interment at Wasatch Lawn. For more on Delilah's life, please visit larkinmortuary.com.
