Cleo Marie Titmus Hornsby

1937 ~ 2018

Cleo Marie Titmus Hornsby passed away peacefully at the age of 80 after a long struggle with Dementia on June 13, 2018, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on July 6, 1937 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Wallace Lynn Titmus and Beula Beatrice (Pat) Tice-Addison Titmus. She married Joseph Young Hornsby III October 17, 1955 in Pocatello, Idaho. They were married for 54 years until Joe's passing in 2009.

Marie worked in retail at Marcor's intermittently over the years, but her greatest joy was always home-making. She retired from SLC School District, employed as Lunch Manager at Franklin Elementary School where her love of children flourished. Marie was witty, sweet, funny and kind, making friends everywhere. She loved to laugh, shop and garden; her yard and home were impeccable. She enjoyed bowling in leagues, playing Pinochle with seven wonderful friends for many years, and holding "Club" with other close girlfriends monthly just to absolutely have a blast! She was truly a beautiful person inside and out, and she touched many people with her loving and unique ways. There was a special bond between Marie and her son-in-law, Tom, they spent years laughing and joking.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Pattie Jo (Tom) Gundlach, two grandchildren, Nicholas Patrick (Lyndsey) Gundlach and Jaimee Marie Gundlach (Casey) Frederick; six great-grandsons, Dylan, Brendan, Jaydan, Nick Jr, Max and Oan, whom she adored, brother Dick (Nickie) Titmus, sisters JoAnn Petersen, Patricia (Richard) Dent, and Vickie (Brent) Taft, many nieces and nephews and lifelong friend Lorraine Harris. Preceded in death by her husband Joe, parents, sister Bonnie Shurtliff, brother-in-law Elwyn Petersen, and brother Lynn Titmus.

Marie was cremated, and to honor her request, no services will be held. The immediate family wishes to thank Dr. Michael Killpack, Nurse Jamie, and study coordinator Karen, The Coventry, Heartwood and Procare Hospice for their compassion, love and expertise. Thank you deeply to those who taught us about Dementia and coached us in Caregiving, and the many friends who supported our kids, ourselves and my Mom along the way. A rose was placed in the Garden of Gethsemane in her memory by special friends visiting there at the time of her passing. We love you and will never stop missing you, beloved Mom, Mother-in-law, Grannie, Sister, Aunt and Friend.
