Marie Krebs Nielsen Patterson

1925 ~ 2016

Marie Krebs Nielsen Patterson passed away on March 1, 2016 in Burley, Idaho. Marie was born to John and Martha Krebs on November 20, 1925 in North Logan, Utah, and married Preston Arnold Nielsen on July 18, 1946 in the Logan LDS Temple. After Preston's death in 1948, Marie served for two years in the LDS Southern States Mission (1949-1951). On January 20, 1953, she married Frank David Patterson in the Logan LDS Temple and they enjoyed a rich life together until David's death in late 2015.

Marie was an active member of the LDS Church throughout her life, working as the personal secretary to the mission president on Temple Square; David and Marie also served on the president's Leadership Council at Brigham Young University. She also made essential contributions to the family's farming business.

A dedicated mother, Marie's first priority was her family. She is survived by five children: Carol (Marty) Kelsey, Cindy (Greg) Adams, David (Cindy) Patterson, Arnold (Cecilia) Patterson, and Mary Jayne (Jeff) Child; 25 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving are siblings Ruth Robinson and Irene Murray. Marie is preceded in death by her daughter Cheryl, her siblings Philip Krebs, Emma Anderson, Vern Krebs, Leo Krebs, Floyd Krebs, and by two grandchildren.

Marie was an involved and beloved contributor to her communities in Clinton, Salt Lake City, and Paul, Idaho. Her adaptable, resilient personality was infused with great warmth and humor, and she will be remembered as a talented, resourceful woman who loved learning and hard work. Marie was also a gifted writer, and more than thirty years ago, in a prize-winning essay called "My Life as a Farm Wife," she reflected on her own experience with a line from Shakespeare ‚ "I wouldn't change my situation for anything." She will continue to be an inspiration to all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Capitol Hill Ward, 413 North West Capitol Street, where friends and family may visit from 9:30 ‚ 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Hyrum City Cemetery, 550 Main Street, Hyrum, Utah. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Huntsman Cancer Center or Primary Children's Medical Center.
