Carolyn Richards Burgener

1946 ~ 2017

Carolyn Richards Burgener, an angel on earth, returned to her Heavenly Father on February 25, 2017 at age 70. Born on March 9, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Earl and Virginia Richards.

Carolyn graduated from Highland High School in 1964 and attended the University of Utah as a history major. Carolyn later followed her love of all things beautiful and became a cosmetologist, a career in which she excelled for more than 20 years.

Carolyn married her true love, Robert H. Burgener on August 23, 1987 and inherited her two sons Robert and Douglas Burgener.

She spent much of her time working and helping various civic, religious, and charitable organizations including the Festival of Trees, Gingerbread Festival, Zoo Rendezvous, Art and Soup, and was awarded a Volunteer Service Award for Mentor of the Year with the Village Project.

Carolyn was known for her loving and unconditional acceptance of everyone she knew. Her generosity was legendary and so many benefited from her kindness. She enjoyed decorating, reading, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. She will be lovingly remembered as a generous and loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend to many.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, Robert H. Burgener, and their two sons Robert (Katherine, daughter-in-law) and Douglas Burgener (fiancé, Jessica O'Kelley) and (Jill Wells, daughter-in-law), her grandchildren Marc Burgener, Ava Burgener, Alexa (Nick) McDaniel, and Richard Wells.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother John Richards, and her baby Troy Jon Hoff.

A viewing will be held on Friday, March 3rd from 6-9pm at Larkin Mortuary- Downtown location on 260 E. South Temple Salt Lake City, Utah. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 4th at 12 noon, at the Salt Lake Big Cottonwood Stake on 2080 E. 5165 S. Holladay, Utah 84117 (Highland Drive), where friends and relatives may call from 10am-11:45am prior to services. Interment at Salt Lake City Cemetery.
