Sylvia Marie Derrick Moody, born June 25, 1938 in San Francisco, California, died peacefully on March 12, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Sylvia was the daughter of Irven Glade and Eva Peterson Derrick. She married Gordon Bishop Moody on December 21, 1963. They were married 49 wonderful years before Gordon died November 5, 2012. They were proud parents of 5 children and 15 grandchildren. Sylvia grew up in San Francisco, CA; Phoenix, AZ and Atlanta, GA. After marrying Gordon they moved from the Bay Area to Arlington, TX where for 35 years they lived and raised their family. Sylvia was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings—especially music and serving children. She had a quiet supportive nature, which benefited her husband and children. She was an excellent homemaker, had a strong testimony and was always the rock and foundation of the home.
Sylvia is survived by her children Marianne, Ronald, Jon (April), Michael (Johanna), Paul (Katrina), stepson Stephen and 15 grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, brother Paul and sisters Joan and Dixie.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 15, at 10:30am at the Willow Creek Stake Center, 2350 E. Creek Rd (8600 So.), Sandy, UT. Viewings will be held Friday, March 14 from 6‚8pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road (10600 So.) and Saturday from 9-10am at the church. Interment Larkin Sunset Gardens.
