Alan Barr Petersen

1955 ~ 2024

Alan Barr Petersen was born March 18, 1955, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Arnold Barr Petersen and Cathleen Louise Mellen Petersen Swain. He passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, peacefully in a care facility with hospice by his side.

Alan grew up in Salt Lake County. He was a rambunctious teenager, building engines and cars. Speeding through the neighborhood and taking out mailboxes. He graduated from Skyline High School. He started his career (a little more mellow) as a photo developing equipment maintenance technician where he worked for most of his career at different locations improving the equipment. When the photo industry went digital, he did odd jobs and property maintenance and eventually security work in his final years.

Alan never hesitated to help family and friends with their cars etc. He took pride in always having the right solution for their woes.

Alan was the oldest of six siblings, followed by Mark Petersen (deceased), Suzanne Petersen Jones Moore (deceased), Pamela Petersen Anderson (Ken Anderson) of Nauvoo Illinois, Brent Petersen of Nauvoo Illinois, and Steven Petersen (deceased). He is preceded in death by his father Barr, his mother Cathleen, his stepfather Norman Swain, his brothers Mark and Steven, and his sister Suzanne, and his grandparents Joseph and Chessie Pollary, Clyde Mellen, Arnold and Areva Petersen.

A graveside service will be held to honor Alan on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Salt Lake City Cemetery (200 "N" Street, Salt Lake City).

Alan's father was a builder. In the early 1970s the Petersens built a nice home at 4630 S. Lanark Rd. (3305 E.), Salt Lake City, UT. We were neighbors. Then they told us they were building a bigger, fancier home, with swimming pool, in the Cotton Bottom area. They moved away and we never heard from them again. Alan must have really liked their home on Lanark Rd. and had good memories living there. For the next few decades, we would see him drive by about once a year by himself to look at his old home.
