It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Albert Gardner, who left us in the early hours of May 17th, 2023. He was a beloved father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather who touched the lives of many during his time on earth.

Born on March 6 in Clarksdale, Mississippi to Carrie and Sydney Gardner, he and his nine siblings spent their early childhood in the small town of Charleston, Mississippi. Albert was known for his relentless teasing and his ability to speak his mind. He was a great provider for family near and far. He was an avid cook, outdoorsman, and self-taught handyman. He loved fishing, hunting, poker, road-trips, soul food, sports, watching the news, wearing suspenders, dogs and his extended family. He also loved spending time exploring modern technology... as best he could. Most of all, he loved his wife, Sammer, to whom he was married for 65 years. Albert and Sammer settled in Salt Lake City, Utah and delighted in the blessings of a growing family.

If he ever cooked for you; he was fond of you. If he ever helped you fix up your car, boat, shed, or primary residence; he might have even loved you. If he ever took you along with him to the junkyard; you were considered family.

Albert was an equal opportunity jokester who loved to banter and tease. He was always willing to lend his tools and expertise to those in need. Though at times he appeared the “strong, silent type”, he always managed to communicate his affection by offering life advice or a barbed joke. His relentless teasing will be missed endlessly. He proudly served in the 25th Infantry of the United States Army, serving in both Japan and Korea.

Albert is survived by: his son, Edward, his daughter, Dorothy, his grandchildren, Renissa, Mychal, Quinton, Shelton, Tricia, Teresa, Kay, Manuel, LaTanya, Terrance, Demetrius, James, Keisha, and Kanisha His great-grandchildren; Chelsey, Portia, London, Brielle, Daphne, Jada, Keaton, Peyton, Kellen, Rashad, Morgan, Jason and 3 great-great-grandchildren who will all cherish his memory.

The loss of Albert leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him. His family takes comfort in the knowledge that he is at last reunited with his wife, Sammer. May he rest in peace, and may his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to us all.

A memorial service will be held to honor Albert on Monday May 22, 2023 at 2pm at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E S Temple St. Salt Lake City, Utah 84111. Friends and family may gather 1 hour prior.

What an amazing gentleman he was, he was my friend most of all. He loved talking about his family and we enjoyed talking about our time in the military. He will be missed.

A few years ago, I was blessed to have met Mr. Gardner, and he was, without a doubt, all that his nephew James Gardner said he was!

What an amazing American patriot and all around accomplished person! We should all count ourselves blessed to have stood in his presence.
