Alfred Jay Bird

Alfred Jay Bird passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones on July 10, 2026. He loved his family dearly, and is survived by his loving wife, Irma, and three beautiful children: Sons Bruce (wife Anne) and Doug, and daughter Debbie (Husband Bryan) Wood; 15 amazing grandchildren: Peter, Katie, Ali, Tyler, Brandon, Kyle, Devin, Dallin, Kaden, Janae, Jacob, Tianna, Maddie, Garett, and Christian; 20 exceptional great grandchildren: Joshua, Natalie, Ryan, Whitney, Calvin, Mack, Wendy, Eddie, June, Claire, Molly, Ember, Cole, Gwen, Otto, Grayson, Addie, Bennett, Violet, and Grayson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and LaVon Bird and his first wife, Nedra Sarah Price Bird.

Jay/Al met Nedra Sarah Price at a church dance and began dating and later married in the Logan Utah Temple. The two were married for 59 years and their lives were full of laughter and adventure. They loved being with their children and grandchildren. They were travel enthusiasts and cruised and visited all over the world. After Nedra's death in 2021, Dad met Irma online via Facebook. They began to date and were later married and shared the joys of travel. They averaged three cruises per year for 3 years plus land trips to California and Yellowstone.

Some of Jay's adventures included cruising the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, Alaska, Hawaii, Norway, and many others. Dad enjoyed pre-planning his trips as much as going on them. He was an avid photographer and could be seen pushing people to the side to get the best shot. He also enjoyed numerous land vacations in the US and abroad. He's visited the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Branson, and Washington DC to name a few. Abroad he visited Ireland, England, Norway, Switzerland, Italy, and others. Jay had a travel bucket list and made a valiant effort to check off as many as he could.

Jay started his career as a high school and middle school teacher. Later he joined the Navy and was discharged as a Lieutenant. He got his MBA from Golden Gate College in California and moved to Texas to work for Texas Instruments as an Accountant. Jay raised his family in the state of Texas. His family was very active in sporting events where Jay coached them numerous times. The highlight of Jay's coaching was where he coached his son, Doug, to a Regional Basketball Championship. Jay was instrumental in helping his sons achieve the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. He also supported his daughter in band through her high school tenure. All three of Jay's kids went on to attend University and graduated with degrees.

First and foremost, Jay will be remembered as a man who loved his family. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities within the church. Recently he even sponsored a Come Follow Me study group with his wife, Irma, and his friends in his ward. Not only was he a good husband and father, but he was a good son and brother. He hoped to leave a legacy that he could pass on to his children, his grandchildren and maybe even his great grandchildren. He knew the world had challenges, but he taught his family that they could overcome them.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Friday, July 17, 2026 at the Summerfield Ward, 2750 West 13400 South in Riverton Utah. A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 16th, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Larkin Mortuary - Riverton, 3688 W 12600 S, Riverton, Utah as well as Friday prior to services beginning at 10AM. Interment will follow at the Paradise City Cemetery in Paradise, UT.
