  • Our beloved parents and grandparents have moved on to their next mission. Robert Lee Marsh Sr. (Bob) passed away on November 22, 2021 and was shortly followed by his angelic wife Alice LaVon Syme Marsh (LaVon) on November 29, 2021.

Bob was born July 22, 1926, In Riverton, Utah to Dorr and Nellie Audrey Peck Marsh. LaVon was born February 12, 1929, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Pherril Peter and Alice Berenice Owen Syme.

Bob served in the US Navy from July 21, 1944, to Sept 13, 1947. He had a love for Country and God. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Uruguay (1947-1950) during which time LaVon faithfully waited for his return. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on December 7, 1950. Later in life they served a mission together in Paraguay (1989-1990) as well as the Washington, D.C. Temple (1995-1996). Afterwards they were called to serve an Employment Mission and were asked to help with German extraction for genealogy. Bob served as a Counselor in the Bishopric and on the High Council. He also served as a Ward Young Men’s President at the same time that LaVon served as a Ward Young Women’s president. When Bob was called as the Stake Patriarch, LaVon was called to be his scribe. Besides her service as a Ward Young Women’s President, LaVon served in the Stake Young Women’s Presidency, as a Primary teacher, and ward chorister.

Bob drew great satisfaction from being an educator as his profession and LaVon delighted in her work as a secretary. When Bob was able, he enjoyed fishing and going to Red Castle in the High Uintah’s. He took his family there and helped them gain a love for God’s creations. He also enjoyed gardening, and both liked being self-sufficient by canning what they had grown.

LaVon enjoyed singing, being a homemaker, sewing, painting, reading when she was able to, and genealogy. She raised a loving and stalwart branch in Zion. Each had an exceptional love for their Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, which they shared frequently with their posterity. Both shared an immense love for music, often singing duets together to the delight of their family and ward members.

Family was very important to them and they raised their children in Murray, Utah. LaVon is survived by her sister Beth J. Busenbark and both are survived by their children - Robert L. Marsh Jr. (Diane), Dee C. Marsh (Lori), Rick O. Marsh (Caralee), and Debra M. Forbush (Curt) as well as their 17 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Dorr Marsh and Nellie Audrey Peck, and siblings. LaVon was preceded in death by her parents, Pherril Peter Syme and Alice Berenice Owen.

Funeral services will be held on December 4, 2021, at 11:00AM at the Sandy Crescent South Stake Center, 275 East 10600 South. A viewing will precede the funeral services beginning at 9:30 am. Interment to follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road.

In lieu of flowers, please Light the World and contribute during this giving season to those in need through the Giving Machines of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or a humanitarian group of your choice.

    Guestbook/Condolences

I am sad to see the passing of my good friend Bob and his wife LaVon. How awesome they could go together. I was a Bishop in the Crescent South Stake at the time Bob was on the High Council and hear him speak many time and learned many things from him. I remember Bob and a VERY thoughtful and kind man who always had a smile. I will miss my friend.
