Alice Wald Johnstun died April 17, 2023 at the age of 88 at her home in Riverton, Utah. She was born August 5, 1934 in Strasburg, North Dakota to Anton and Ida Bernhardt Wald. She married Arvie James Johnstun (Jim) on December 29, 1956 at St Theresa Catholic Church in Midvale, Utah in the Little Rock Church.

When she was 17 and after she graduated high school she moved (ran away) to live with her sister, Marie, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin - to work. Milwaukee had several beautiful ballrooms where many of the big bands such as Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey and Benny Goodman played. She was fortunate enough to be able to attend some of the dances and that is where she and Jim met.

Alice was a homemaker. She worked at Utah Roses and developed a love for gardening. She worked for 20 years at E&G clothing manufacturing. She raised 5 children and loved to play BINGO and meet up with friends for lunch. She enjoyed the fourth of July Parade with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She looked forward to going to Wendover and staying at the Montego Bay. She NEVER missed a birthday and had a knack for giving the perfect style and size even a teenager would like. She loved visiting with family and friends and always had snacks on the table. She loved hearing from family in North Dakota, she always posted the latest event on the fridge.

We would like to thank all her neighbors who watched over her and always helped with shoveling her snow, mowing her lawn and taking her garbage cans to and from the road.

She is survived by her sister Marie Kaikini, sisters-in-law Ruth Saunders, Shirleen Johnstun, and Elaine Wald. Daughters Kelly (Jay) Butterfield, Kristy (Phil) Holmes, sons Tony Johnstun, Bob (Ken) Johnstun; 7 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceded in death by her husband Jim Johnstun, parents, brothers Martin Wald, Felix Wald, Anton Jr. Wald, sisters Benedicta Scherr, daughter Kim Johnstun, grandsons Josh Ludwig and Ben Kubik and great-grandson Branson Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 1PM on Saturday April 22,2023 at Larkin Mortuary – Riverton, 3688 West 12600 South, Riverton, UT. A viewing will be held prior to the services beginning at 11:30AM. Interment will follow at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Sandy, UT.
