DELIGHTED to leave this mortal experience behind, Amaryllis Lindsey Tippetts left her dear family and friends on May 2, 2023.

Born on September 14, 1943 to Delbert and Ruth Lindsey in the little town of Gilmer, Texas. She was named after a character in The Magic Garden by Gene Stratton Porter. Not having heard of an amaryllis lily, her mother pronounced the name with an emphasis on the mare - like a lady horse. She explained her name for the rest of her life and felt thankful she was not named Ranunculus or Petunia.

No stranger to struggle, her character developed in the crucible of life. She was known for her desire to find joy and gratitude for simple things, her tenacity of purpose (that the world sometimes calls stubbornness), her sense of humor and wit, her insistence on true living, and her gentle compassion and love. Her artistic nature found vent in volumes of journals and family histories, beautiful paintings and the creation of greetings cards and “Ebenezer stones” of encouragement and love received by those she noticed.

Amaryllis was the oldest sister of five siblings whom she cared for until her college days at BYU. Serving in the Florida mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she met Elder Larry Tippetts. Though impressed with his dimples and horn-rimmed glasses, his testimony and compassionate nature, it was later that she felt impressed to see him as the partner who would be her committed eternal companion. Together they have laughed, sobbed and held to each other (most the time) through 55 years and 8 months of marriage. Five children, 18 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren have brought joy (most of the time) to their lives. WE LOVE YOU! We feel your blessing on us once again: The Lord bless thee and keep thee: The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace. (Numbers 6: 24-26)

Amaryllis is survived by her husband Larry Tippetts; children Steve Tippetts, Heather (David) Gilliat, Joe (Mindy) Tippetts, and Jared (Cesily) Tippetts; 18 grandchildren Brooke, Lindsee, Natasha, David, Henry, Kurtis, Stephen, Amy, Abigail, Alysa, Benson, Matthew, Christian, Lucy, Zion, Dallin, Eden and Gracelyn; and 3 great-grandchildren Clark, Finn and Sam. She is preceded in death by her eldest son Scott Tippetts.

A viewing will be held Friday, May 5th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the LDS Ward Chapel, 2675 E. Mount Jordan Rd, Sandy. Funeral services will be held at the same chapel Saturday, May 6th at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing from 9:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery, 1950 East Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 South) Sandy, Utah.

Sorry to hear about Sister Lindsey, but it was great serving with you two in the Florida Mission. (And fun taking your place in Hollywood, Larry!). May the best be with you and have peace and joy!

We wish to express our sorrow at the news of Amaryllis passing from mortality . She will be missed by all who knew her, but we know she will be awaiting family and friends on the other side of the veil..

Amaryllis and I were roommates at Heritage Halls at BYU. It was because of her example that I chose to serve a mission and we have been friends through the years sharing the good times as well as the hard times. Her deep love of the Savior along with her pithy sense of humor has blessed my life and given me encouragement and strength. She loved her family and friends so very much. Her funeral was a beautiful expression of her life and the things that were important to her. May you have peace in the hard times but lots of happy, joyful memories as you remember Amaryllis' life. She epitomized love.

Amaryllis and I have laughed together, prayed together, and cried together over the past 60 years. She is my eternal friend. My heart hurts and I will truly miss her, but I am so grateful to know that she no longer suffers. I know heaven is smiling with her return. The joy she brought to us in our earthly journey is now extended to eternity. Amar was my treasured BYU roommate and my Maid of Honor. I am so thankful for her influence in my life. Amar, an elect woman, met life's challenges with faith, dignity, and humor. Larry, we pay tribute to you for being the love of her life and her rock. Amaryllis' talents and tender caring have blessed our lives in so many ways. Our roommate reunions will continue when we meet again.
With Love, Dawn (and Gary, too)
