Andrew “Scott” Thomas, affectionately known as “Guido, Scotty, Jerry, Jazzy or Scotter” passed away unexpectedly on May 3, 2022.

Scott is predeceased by his father, Dennis Robert Thomas, maternal grandparents, Alton B. Sr. and Irene Farris and his paternal grandparents Robert C. “Bumpie” and Elizabeth “Bummie” Thomas. Left to cherish his memory is his mother, Karole Farris Thomas, three siblings Rob Thomas and his wife Rebeca Fernandez, Chris Thomas, Beth Thomas and her husband John Rosswog, along with Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and many dear friends who were like family to him.

Scott was born August 28, 1977 in Salt Lake City, Utah where he lived for the entirety of his life. As a gentle giant, both in stature and spirit, Scott had an enormous heart and compassion for others; often foregoing his own concerns to attend to the needs of others. He was known for his ginormous warm hugs, ability to make others laugh, and inclusive nature. Scott was a protector, often shielding others from pain or serving as peace keeper in tough situations. An avid sports fan, there was never a sports season he didn’t like – from the Miami Dolphins to the New York Yankees and Washington Capitals, he enjoyed attending, “trash-talking” with friends and watching sporting events. Scott was an avid reader enjoying a variety of topics from politics to science-fiction and others. Scott loved to travel, particularly to Costa Rica, which held a special space in his heart. Most of all, Scott was a friend to all and was blessed to have a very wide circle of friends who he spent most of his time with and loved immensely.

“You never said I’m leaving, you never said goodbye. You were gone before we knew it, and only God knew why. A million times we needed you, a million times we cried. If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died. In life we loved you dearly, in death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place that no one could ever fill. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God took you home.”

This is just so heartbreaking! The quote "Only the good die young" never held so much meaning as it does now. Scott was such a wonderful person. His great smile, laugh and wittiness was something I always looked forward to when I would go to the Jackalope, and visiting Scott was often my main motivation in going! Everyone loved Scott, I know there are so many people grieving his loss right now deeply! I feel truly blessed to have been able to call him my friend for many years and will always cherish my memories of him! RIP Scott!

Hey brother,

I was having a heavy moment of missing you today. I am writing this from Anderson Branch library, and it's a cold March ('23) day here in SLC. I wish I could call you and have you meet me for a beer because you are an expert at making me (and everyone) feel better. I need to hear your voice and hear you laugh and I need a hug, but I will wait until I see you on the other side for that I guess. Thank you for making me feel important and loved. xo
