1952 ~ 2025
In Loving Memory of Anthony Rey Alvera
Born August 28, 1952 in Salt Lake City to Benny and Rebecca Alvera.
With broken hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, who lost his courageous fight to cancer on December 22, 2025. His loss has left an ache that words can scarcely hold and a silence that feels impossibly loud.
He was the kindest, most thoughtful, genuinely funny man we knew—someone who had an extraordinary gift for making people feel seen and valued. He gave freely of himself without ever expecting anything in return, and he had a way of bringing laughter into even the heaviest moments. Just being near him made life feel a little lighter.
He found joy in the simple things he loved most. He could often be found playing his guitar, casting a line while fishing, or working with his hands on woodworking projects. He had a deep appreciation for classic cars—especially Nomads—and could talk about them with childlike excitement. He also loved watching sports, savoring the camaraderie and moments shared with family while cheering on his favorite teams.
He was a devoted husband to his wife, Joline, for 52 1/2 years, whose love and partnership defined his life. As a father, he was a safe place, an example of goodness, and proof that love doesn’t need to be loud to be powerful.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joline; his son, Ben (Veronica); his daughters, Cristina and Rachel (Trevor); five siblings; twelve grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. His family was his pride and joy, and each of them brought him immeasurable purpose and happiness.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Benny and Rebecca Alvera, as well as his brothers, Dennis and Ronald Alvera and nephew Brian Alvera.
His voice, his humor, and his presence are deeply missed. Learning how to navigate life without him feels unimaginable, yet his love continues to guide those he leaves behind.
We would like to express a very special thanks and so much gratitude for all the Dr's and nurses at Huntsman Cancer Hospital, University of Utah Hospital and Huntsman at home.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and honor the life of a man who meant so much to so many.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Larkin Mortuary. 1950 E 10600 S, Sandy, UT 84092. Friends may visit with family from 10:00-11:00 at the mortuary.
Though life will never be the same, his legacy lives on in the hearts he touched and the lives he shaped. Loving him was the greatest gift; losing him is the deepest pain. He will be carried forward in memories, laughter, and love—always.
Forever loved. Forever missed.
