Arlene June Jensen Curtis returned home on July 1, 2023, surrounded by family members.

Born to a household of four big brothers (younger sister to be added three years later) in Salt Lake City on June 25, 1940, to Perris Soren and Gwen Jensen. She married her eternal companion Gary Cloyd Curtis in Salt Lake City, Utah.

A graduate of Jordan high school class of 1958, Arlene was passionate about education. She obtained her bachelor's degree from BYU in 1967 in elementary and early childhood education. She obtained a master’s degree of education in instructional science in 1979. She continued with many classes in post graduate studies and found much joy in becoming educated in many areas.

As a teacher, Arlene taught many ages including college courses. She became the media specialist for the Jordan School District when computers were first being introduced to the schools. She finished her career in education as the assistant superintendent of the Millard County school district.

While raising her children, she loved boating, camping, water skiing and snow skiing with the family. She was passionate about travel and loved to explore and travel the world.

Later in her life she worked with her father to complete family genealogy work. She submitted hundreds, if not thousands, of names of her ancestors. Much of the temple work for those ancestors was done by Arlene. She remained excited about genealogy throughout her remaining years.

Arlene loved and had a great testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and lived her life becoming like her Savior. She served valiantly in many callings throughout her life including serving as Primary President, Gospel Doctrine teacher, and with various other presidencies and teaching assignments. Arlene and Gary served a mission in the Thailand Bangkok Mission which included time in Myanmar (formerly Burma). In Myanmar they met their interpreter, Win Shwe, whom they assisted in bringing to the United States and who has become like a son to them. They also served a mission in the West Australia Perth Mission and then served at Church Headquarters in the Missionary Department. Lastly, they served a leadership mission in the Midvale Utah area.

Arlene was an accomplished seamstress, cook, and musician, all of which she perfected without formal training.

She was proud of her accomplished children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Arlene is survived by her husband Gary Curtis, her four children Sandra Cullimore (Kirk), Gregory Curtis (Teresa), Christine Stephenson (Tom), Natalie “Tali” Bruce (deceased William) and her sister Marilyn Dougall (John). She is survived by 23 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren with many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents, brothers Homer Jensen, Wendell Jensen, Neil Jensen, and Bruce Jensen.

A viewing will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary (1950 East 10600 South, Sandy Utah) on Friday July 7 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A viewing will also be held at 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM prior to the funeral at the LDS Chapel.

Funeral Services for Arlene will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday July 8, 2023 at the LDS Chapel located at 1830 East 6400 South, Murray, Utah.

One of the joyous aspects of a funeral is the opportunity to mingle with friends and family we don't get the opportunity to see. We understand that many of Arlene's friends from other parts of the country and even in Utah may not be able to attend in person. Because of this, we have arranged for the funeral to be broadcast and recorded.

We were sad to hear of your dear mothers passing. She was a marvelous lady who touched many lives. We know some of the family and she raised strong children. The great thing about the church is we know "Families are Forever" and you will see her again. She is now yhour guardian angel in heaven and no longer faced with her trials.
