Austin Terry Powell, 27, passed away tragically and unexpected on Sunday, April 3, 2022. He was born on January 26, 1995, in Murray, Utah to Nicole Powell Ortega and Zachary Diehl. Austin graduated from Summit Academy High School in 2013 after which he attended the University of Utah.
Austin loved watching football and basketball but had a passion for playing lacrosse because it taught discipline, leadership, and teamwork. He enjoyed playing lacrosse at Juan Diego, Summit Academy, and the University of Utah.
Those who had the opportunity to know Austin knew what a loyal, kind, and incredible friend he was to all. He loved traveling with his friends, eating a delicious steak, and driving fast cars.
With great intellect he desired to become an entrepreneur with interest in various types of business ventures. He demonstrated a great leadership ability from a young age.
Austin felt his greatest accomplishment and of whom he was most proud, and who he dearly loved was his daughter Elizabeth “Grace” Powell whom he coparented with Madison Grace Dohring. Every Christmas they loved wearing matching pajamas and ugly sweaters. They enjoyed yearly trips to Disneyland and multiple beaches wearing matching swimming suits. Austin loved Halloween and looked forward to wearing their group themed costumes. He loved the Utah Utes and enjoyed watching the football games together and especially loved and looked forward to his daddy daughter dates with Grace.
The passion he felt for his daughter and her future was unparalleled. He would talk to Grace about the importance of girl power, and talk politics with her, always asking her opinion. Encouraging her and telling her how smart she is and that she could be and do anything. Austin always said, “Grace is going to run the world”. He was a loved and cherished member of the Dohring/Roberston (Beth and Jason) family over the past 11 years and loved being a big brother to William and Sophie Dohring.
He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Grace Powell; parents, Nicole (Able) Ortega, Zachary Diehl; grandparents, Paul Diehl, Signe Olson, Terry and Shelley Powell; uncles Jake Diehl, Nathan Powell, and Jeremy (Gretchen) Powell; cousins, Jessa (Hayden) Sims, Ashlyn Powell, Loren Powell and numerous great aunts, great uncles, extended cousins and many friends who are like family.
Austin was preceded in death by his grandmother; Diane Diehl; aunt, Shannon Kitchin; great grandparents, Vonna and Harry Polad, Don and Doris Powell, George and Violet Diehl.

So grateful to know that you will see Austin again! Love you and we will continually pray for you to have peace♥️♥️
Mary Lynne shared this with me. I'm so sorry we haven't stayed in touch that last couple of decades, but I'm your cousin and I feel terrible about your loss. It just shouldn't happen this way. We old folks should be the ones leaving, not the young! Deepest condolences. Maxine (Anderson) Babalis
Shelley, Please forgive me. I put Mary Lynne's name instead of yours. I'm getting old and feeble-minded. Maxine

My heart hurts for the sadness engulfing your life’s, I’d like to think George, Vi and Diane have taken Austin under their angel wing. It’s a long road to find comfort in this tragedy and I’ll be keeping the Diehl family in my thoughts and heart.
