Sybel Benson Plehn

1920 ~ 2015

Sybel Benson Plehn passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2015, at the age of 95 after a short, but courageous battle with cancer. She was born on April 17, 1920, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Orrin Raymond Benson and Annie Asenath Smith, the fourth of their six children. Sybel married and had three children, one of whom, Clayton Raymond Millward, died when only 9 days old. She and her two remaining children, Rene and Mark, relocated to Southern California in 1948 to live with her sister and brother-in-law, Genevieve and Edward Earl Johnson.

In 1950, Sybel married Keith Robb Plehn who became the love of her life. Keith adopted Rene and Mark and the family was sealed together in the Los Angeles temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1966. The family lived in Whittier, and later in El Monte, California where Keith died in 1991. Shortly thereafter, Sybel moved to Orem, Utah, to be near family and friends.

Sybel was an active and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all of her life and served in many callings. The light of Christ shown in her countenance and she blessed the lives of all who knew her. She was a friend to all and she only thought of others as extended family.

Sybel was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Clayton, her husband, Keith, her daughter, Rene Plehn Kempton, three brothers, Raymond, LeGrande, and Clair Benson, and one great grandchild, Christian Dunford Plehn. She is survived by her son, Mark (Kaye) Plehn, sisters Genevieve (Edward Earl) Johnson and Hazel (Ted) Kruse, 13 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Suncrest 5th Ward LDS chapel, 140 N. 400 W., Orem, UT, at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 28, 2015. A viewing will take place between 10:00 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. preceding the funeral service. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy, Utah.
