Jay Alan Henderson

1955 ~ 2015

Centerville—Jay Alan Henderson passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer at the age of 59 on December 26th, 2015 at home with his beautiful wife by his side.

He is survived by the love of his life Melody, daughter Summer (Derek) Putnam, son Jay William, son Michael, his father Jay James and his wife Mae, and brother David James. He is also survived by his two daughters in love Shaylee Baker, Lauren Stern and his two "grand-ones" Emma and Jackson. He was preceded in death by his wonderful mother Kaye and his grandparents.

Jay was born on December 31st, 1955. He grew up in Henderson, Nevada and moved to Cedar City, Utah to study music at Southern Utah University. There he met his wonderful wife Melody Mendenhall. They were married on September 22, 1977 and later sealed in the St. George LDS Temple. The two began their life together in Cedar City, Utah where they ran their own reception center and pioneered the cover band Night Watch with their close friends. Jay worked for Xerox and XMPIE for many years and excelled in sales and management. He was a talented musician who sang beautifully and also played the piano and guitar. He performed in many musicals and plays at numerous theatres in the area, his favorite role being "Frankie" in Forever Plaid. He had a love for books, coffee, good conversation and enjoyed meals with friends and family. Jay could make friends easily and made everyone feel as if they were the most important person in his life. He gave the very best hugs and was adored by his pet "buddy cat". Jay was a great father and grandfather to his children and "grand ones". He listened and gave soft guidance. His love made you feel accepted and understood. His positive strength lifted us all even through his battle with cancer. He will be missed and remembered with hearts full of love for years to come.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday January 2nd at 11:30 am at the LDS Rowland Way Chapel, 610 N Rowland Way, Centerville, Utah. Small reception to follow.
