Madeline Louise Dickey Weaver

1929 ~ 2016

Having lived a wonderful life, our beloved mother and "Belle of the Ball," Madeline Louise Dickey Weaver, age 86, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, November 19, 2016, surrounded by her children and their spouses.

Madeline was born December 27, 1929, in Jacksonville, Florida, the fourth of six children, to Thelma Pearl Hart and Leolin Nicholson Patterson Dickey. She was a popular beauty who loved dancing, "fish frys" on the beach, and church activities. The Dickey home was always open to servicemen and missionaries where they received true southern hospitality.

In 1947, Madeline graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville. She worked for five years to support her brothers on their missions before attending BYU with her brothers and sister. She graduated in 1956 with a degree in elementary education and taught school in both Utah and California.

Madeline met M. Glenn Weaver, the love of her life, in Opera Workshop at BYU. They married December 19, 1958, in Provo, Utah and were sealed a week later in the Los Angeles LDS Temple on her 29th birthday. Together, they shared twenty-nine fun-filled years raising three daughters and two sons in Torrance, California where Glenn worked as the City Engineer.

While raising five children, Madeline became a licensed real estate agent for Deseret Realtors. Serving in many capacities in the LDS church throughout her life, she was the Relief Society President when Glenn was called as a Bishop. (His first act as Bishop was to release her.)

After Glenn was diagnosed with cancer, the family moved to Utah in 1981. Madeline worked as an Executive Assistant for Young Electric Sign Co. When she retired, she was called as a Service Missionary to the LDS Conference Center. She had an abiding testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ, and His beautiful plan of salvation.

Madeline loved travel, music and learning. She traveled the world, helped her children develop their talents and instilled in them a love for learning. But her greatest joy came from being with family, especially on Sunday evenings when her children and grandchildren gathered to share their lives through stories and laughter. She loved parties, Christmas and the color blue.

She is survived by her daughters, Glenna (Kay) Bradford, Rebecca (BJan) Djahanbani, Karen Kay (Dale) Quick, and sons, Drew (Debbie) Weaver, and Myles (Janette) Weaver; three brothers, Myron (Christine) Dickey, Gary (My) Dickey, Desmond (Roxanna) Dickey; and sixteen grandchildren, Parker Bradford; Attessa, Kamryn, Taemour Djahanbani; Stephanie, Brian, Derek, Aaron Quick; Lindsay, Jessica (Dan Sangster), Brooke (Donny Skousen), Katie Weaver; Kendall, Mason, Drew, Teague Weaver. She is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Glenn; parents; brother, Merle St. Elmo; and sister, Mercedes Hill.

Mom has missed Dad every day since his passing in 1988. Her children wish to give special thanks to her Home Teacher, Eric Ensign, who for twenty-eight years, faithfully fulfilled his promise to Glenn to watch over Madeline.
