Emma Louisa Parry Shingleton

1916 ~ 2015

Emma Louisa Parry Shingleton passed away in South Jordan, Utah on September 16, 2015, exactly one month before her 99th birthday. She was born on October 16, 1916 to Edwin Francis Parry and Ethel Turnbaugh Parry. She married Clarence William Shingleton in the Salt Lake Temple on February 12, 1941. He passed away on February 16, 2002.

Emma attended Jackson Elementary and Junior High. She graduated from West High School and then attended beauty school. Emma enjoyed being a mother as her children were growing up. She worked in the housewares department at Auerbachs for 15 years.

Emma was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served as a young sister missionary in the East Central States Mission from 1938 to 1939. She also served with her husband as a senior couple missionary in the Alabama Birmingham Mission from 1983 to 1984. Some of her callings included Primary president and organist, den mother and ward librarian. She also taught in the Primary, MIA and Sunday School. Emma served with her husband as ordinance workers in the Salt Lake Temple from 1985 to 1996.

Her strong testimony and gentle, loving nature provided a good example to her children and their families and many others. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She supported her children and grandchildren in their activities whenever she could. She enjoyed good times with her family, ward members and friends, especially "The Sixteeners" and Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

She was blessed with three sons: Le Grand (Marjorie, deceased), Douglas (Shannon), and Gary (Jeanmarie); and two daughters: Eileen Jensen (Don) and Janet Oakeson (Reed); 25 grandchildren with 16 spouses, 59 great-grandchildren with one spouse; and 4 great-great grandchildren, for a total posterity of 115. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Ralph Parry, her husband, a daughter-in-law, and her grandson, Preston.

Her family expresses gratitude for the care and attention she received at The Coventry in Cottonwood Heights, and more recently at Carrington Court in South Jordan.

A visitation will be held on Sunday evening, September 20 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City. Funeral services will also be held at Larkin Mortuary on Monday, September 21, at 2:00 pm. A visitation will also be held prior to the funeral from 12:30 ‚ 1:30 pm. Internment at Salt Lake City Cemetery.
