Karin Kellgreen

1950 ~ 2014

Karin Else Figen Steiner Kellgreen, passed away June 30 surrounded by her adoring family. She was born February 21st 1950 in Fredericia, Denmark. She immigrated to the United States with her mother and 2 sisters at the age of 3 and settled in Newton Utah. They later moved to Burley, Idaho when her mother remarried giving her 8 new siblings. After graduating from High school, she moved to Salt Lake City where she completed an associate's degree and married Jerry Kellgreen. She devoted her life to raising her four children and nurturing her 11 grandchildren. Karin worked at the Lion House and Joseph Smith Memorial Building as a baker and pastry chef for 25 years. She also made wedding cakes, taught cooking classes and was a featured guest on several television lifestyle shows. She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings.

Karin\s greatest joy and talent was creating an environment where people felt loved and appreciated. An optimist by nature, she always saw the best in others. She was happiest when she was taking care of her family and friends. Many found great comfort with her and gathered in her home because she made them feel so welcome and important. Extended family members, exchange students and friends of her children all called her house home at various times. She loved cooking for large groups of friends and family and thrived on creating memories for those she loved. Her children truly considered her their best friend and champion.

Karin was very creative and loved gardening, decorating, drawing and painting. She was an amazing cook and baker and enjoyed creating original recipes. She especially loved sharing these activities with her grandchildren. She often painted with them and together went on nature walks where they practiced sketching. The grandchildren loved having sleepovers, cooking school, art lessons, sewing lessons, museum visits, reading time and shopping trips with her. She was truly a "hands-on" grandma. Words cannot express how much she will be missed.

She is survived by her children; Kara (William) Busath, Heather (Robert) McGrath, Anna (Willie) Oviedo, W. Kaj Kellgreen, her eleven grand children and Jerry Kellgreen. She will also be dearly missed by her sisters and extended family. She was preceded in death by her mother Ruth Steiner and her fathers Grandin Steiner and Peter Baehne Figen.
