BarBara Alice Bate

1927 ~ 2023

BarBara Alice Bate was born 14 May 1927 to Alice Freida Heise and Otis Levi Bate. BarBara never met her father. She and her mother went to live with her grandma and grandaddy Heise. Alice married Basil Alonzo Rhodes and when BarbBara was about 13 she went to live with them.

In 1943, at 16, she married Emer Richard Taylor (Dick). They were the parents of five daughters. Rhonda, Dayna, Dixie, Lisa and Becky. They built and operated the Lazy B motel in Afton WY. BarBara was always fun and adventurous. She was not afraid to try new things and had many friends. In 1965 BarBara and Dick divorced and BarBara moved to Salt Lake City.

In 1987, at the age of sixty, BarBara was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Of that day she wrote “I had a very warm, comfortable, and happy feeling. I am glad I finally made a right decision about something in my life”. One year later she went to the temple accompanied by her daughters and their husbands. She said, “what an emotional, glorious, fulfilling and spiritual feeling that was”.

In 1992 BarBara moved to Cedar City, UT and from there she was called on a temple mission to Washington DC where she met her future husband, Paul Combs. Together they served a mission in Mesa AZ, served as ordinances workers in the Jordan River Temple and did extensive work on their family history. Once BarBara started on the covenant path she dedicated her life to serving God and her Family.

After Paul’s death in 2011 she moved to Logan UT to be by her daughter, Rhonda. After her health started to fail, she lived with her daughters for a time. On December 17, 2023, while living in Mount Pleasant UT, she returned home to her Heavenly Father and loved ones who have been waiting to see her again. She was 96 years old.

A Funeral Service will be held Thursday December 28, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Latter-day Saint Church, located at 2180 E Meadowlark Way, Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be held from 10:00-1045 a.m. the day of the service.
