  • Our beloved mother, Barbara Hansen Salmond Osborne, returned to the arms of her Heavenly Father on Friday, May 7th 2021 in West Valley City after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease.

    She was born in Logan, Utah on March 2nd 1927 to Walter & Isabelle Goodsell Hansen. She was raised in Ogden and attended school in Ogden. She graduated from Ogden High in 1945 and graduated from Weber State in 1969 with a Bachelors Degree in Education. She was a dedicated elementary school teacher for 19 years in the Davis County School District.

    She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in the Primary and Relief Society in many positions. She was in the Relief Society Singing Mothers for many years and they had the opportunity to sing in the Tabernacle for a general conference. She was a Visiting Teacher for most of her life. She served as a compassionate service leader for over ten years. She and Tom also served on ward activity committee. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers for well over 50 years.

    She married John Lowell Salmond on July 10th 1946 in the Logan Temple. They were later divorced. They were the parents of six children. They lived in Ogden, Providence, West Bountiful and Centerville. She later married Thomas G. Osborne in June of 1982 in Bountiful, UT. They were later sealed in the Jordon River Temple in November 1987. In 1989/90 she and Tom served a mission in Monroe, Michigan. They later served a three year mission in the Church Museum of History and Art.

    She loved cats and dogs but especially cats. She loved music, she had a beautiful voice and sang in many choirs. She played the piano, violin and ukulele. She and Lowell squared danced for many years in Ogden. She was an excellent seamstress and started sewing her own clothes in high school. She sewed her children's clothes until they learned to sew their own. She loved to sew clothes for her granddaughters. She loved to work in her flower beds and garden. She liked to crochet and knit and love to make quilts. She made quilts for her grandkids when they graduated from high school. She and Tom loved to travel; they went on many tours and cruises. She loved being around her family. She was a care giver; she cared for her parents and her dear sweetheart Tom.

    She is survived by one brother Russell (Shirley) Hansen; and seven children: SueZanne (Stephen) Dalley; Peggy (Vern – deceased) Woodward; Bradley (Pam) Salmond; Brian (Robyn) Salmond; Breck (Camille) Salmond; Elese Salmond and Carol Osborne; 31 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death by her parents; two husbands; by 4 sisters and 2 brothers; 2 sister-in-laws and 1 brother-in-law, 1 son-in-law; one grandson and two grand-son-in-laws; and numerous cats and dogs.
    Many thanks to Dennis, Anna and Andrew from the Intermountain Hospice for their loving care they gave Barbara.

    A public viewing will be held at her ward on 4310 South 3200 West in West Valley City Saturday May 15th from 10:00 am to 10:45 am. Funeral services in the ward chapel at 11:00 am. Interment will be at the West Jordan City Cemetery, 7925 South 1300 West in West Jordan. The service will be live streamed on her obituary at Larkin Mortuary’s website, www.larkinmortuary.com where condolences may also be sent to the family.
